    The Delray Beach Public Library exists to enrich the lives of the individuals of Delray Beach’s diverse communities by creating and sustaining superior public library services through responsive staff, dynamic collections, appropriate technology and access to global information. Our Mission is to foster the love of reading, to encourage lifelong learning and to provide a comprehensive range of library materials, programs and services for adults, teens and children.

    The Educational Programs and Volunteer Manager position is integral to the Delray Beach Public Library team. The position develops, maintains and executes all audience level educational programs and coordinates the Volunteer Program.

    Duties & Responsibilities:
    + Creates, coordinates and executes educational programs to raise community awareness, create good will, and to further the mission of the library.

    +Current free and paid educational programs include: Lifelong Learning Community Institute – Summer, Fall, and Winter/Spring, Authors Showcase, Food Symposium, Sunday Musical Matinees, Publix Cooking School Demo, Book Groups, Socrates Café, Ukulele Workshop, Health Living Series, Art Exhibits, and more.

    +Recruits speakers and instructors, identifies technical needs, coordinate volunteers, registration, payment and promotion.

    +Coordinates and manages the Lifelong Learning Community Institute Advisory Committee.

    +Prepares program information for flyers, website and other promotional materials.

    +Works with the Director of Community Relations to implement media coverage and social media marketing of programs.

    +Manages the Volunteer Program.

    + Recruits, interviews and assigns Volunteers through applications submitted at the DBPL.

    +Plan and execute the Volunteer Orientation in November and Volunteer Appreciation Brunch with gifts in March.

    +Prepare Assignment sheet with volunteer phone numbers and maintain statistics spread sheet showing daily total of patrons helped.

    +Develops, maintains and promotes positive and professional relationships with internal staff, volunteers, members, vendors, contractors, media and the general public

    + Other duties as assigned

    Education, Skills & Experience Requirements:
    + Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or minimum four (4) years proven experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of related training and experience. For example, a two-year college degree in a related field with two years of related experience may be substituted
    + Excellent oral and written communication skills and attention to detail
    + Self-motivated, self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure to meet deadlines
    + Ability to develop and maintain excellent rapport, and cooperative and courteous relationships with supervisor, co-workers, officials, merchants, city representatives, partner organizations, and the general public
    + Knowledge of MS Office Systems and Office Suites (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Publisher.
    +Ability to lift 25 pounds in the shifting and moving of library materials and equipment required. Ability to navigate stairs, kneel, bend, reach, stand for 1/2 hour, stretch and stoop in the maintenance of an orderly collection on the shelves required. Normal speech quality and normal hearing ability expected at level of 25 decibels through the speech frequency, aided or unaided, in order to efficiently serve the public. Ability to drive a car to perform various duties outside library building and ability to attend out-of-town meetings via commercial transportation.
