Noël Coward’s story of two ordinary people, Laura (Celia Johnson) and Alec (Trevor Howard), was touted as one of the most romantic films of all time by The Guardian. The film tells the story of how two strangers, both married, fall in love after a chance meeting at a railway station. Their love affair creates many consequences and unexpected complications—but although they know their relationship cannot continue, they are hopelessly drawn to each other. Coward scholar, Barry Day and head of the Kravis Center’s The Writers’ Academy, Julie Gilbert will discuss this poignant love story and its deeper meaning
