Search For Indigenous Artists

Through Wednesday, January 31
Flamingo Clay Studio

The Flamingo Clay Glass Metal Stone Gallery is a non-profit artist cooperative located at 15 South J Street in Downtown Lake Worth.  A new feature is developing in the form of an “International Bazaar" in a separated section of the gallery, and artists throughout the county who create the indigenous crafts of their many cultures such as Baskets/Pottery/Dolls/ Clothing/ wood-working/ Papier Mache, from Central and South America, Haiti and the Islands, and from Africa and Asia, are welcome to submit.

All artists in the gallery are local to Palm Beach County and produce works of sculpture, pottery, weaving, glass, wood carving, and metal smithing.  It is the first such gallery in the county and artists are juried into the gallery, insuring the finest works in the region. The gallery specializes in 3-D works, and is actively searching for artists who produce these types of works and need an affordable home to show and sell what they produce.  To preserve the Fine Arts/Crafts status of the gallery, each artist will go through a jury system.

HOW IT WORKS

All artists must submit 5 jpeg pictures of their work so that they can be sent to the jury. Once accepted each artist pays an affordable monthly membership fee and works four-hours a week in the gallery. This fee goes towards paying for rent and electricity.  Each artist will receive a space that is 4 feet wide (and often better). When the work sells, the artist earns 80% and the gallery is given 20% of the sale. Such low costs are because there are no paid employees and each artist is responsible for jobs that help each other succeed.

Additionally, on Saturday evenings artists may share in a "Make and Take."  Artists can teach their crafts, or painting in a three hour class and receive 50% of the funds raised on those evenings.

The Flamingo ClayGlassMetalStone Cooperative Gallery is sponsored by the Flamingo Clay Studio, a 501-c3 non-profit arts organization whose mission is to provide affordable studio and gallery space for three-dimensional artists as well as education.  Contact:  Joyce@FlamingoClayStudio.org for an application.
