    Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast

In 2015, city leaders and residents will join the staff of The Spady Cultural Heritage Museum for the 15th year of celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy. The annual Martin Luther King, Jr. event has swelled to welcome more than 150 people from Palm Beach and Broward counties to the Delray Beach Golf Club, after beginning in 2000 as a ‘home-style’ breakfast and film-showing at Old School Square.

The Spady Museum’s celebration has become a ‘must-attend’ occasion for the community and is regularly attended by county and city government heads, civic and church leaders, as well as representatives from education, art & culture and other nonprofit organizations.

“It’s hard to believe that 15 years have passed, but it is lovely to acknowledge the level of support garnered for the museum through this event,” said Museum Director Charlene Jones. “We’re proud to have an event that so many people make a part of their annual tradition, and we’ve been able to collaborate with a great list of partners and performers.”

For 2015, the MLK Breakfast will welcome Pablo del Real of Aurora’s Voice, who, in the spirit of King’s legendary activism, will announce a new joint venture called Serve Delray. Serve Delray is a website that will feature the volunteer opportunities of Delray Beach non-profit organizations. Residents, visitors, students and all interested parties can search the site for opportunities that suit them.

In previous years, the MLK Breakfast has featured musical selections by The Pasco Baker Concert Choir and “Double Trouble” twin singers Rashad and Tashad Gardenhire and presentations by winners of the Palm Beach Poetry Festival and Knights of Pythagoras’ South Florida Youth Speak Out! oratorical contest, Delray Beach Commissioner Angeleta Gray, Dr. Henrietta Smith of the University of South Florida and Dr. Art Evans of Florida Atlantic University.

2015 event sponsors include Iberia Bank, the Delray Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, Cultural Council of Palm Beach County, Tourist Development Council and Palm Beach County.
