An Evening with Joan Quinn and Friends

The Cornell Art Museum invites all to meet celebrated art patron, collector and journalist, Joan Agajanian Quinn during a special reception for the exhibition, “Who is Joan Quinn? A Life in Portraits.”

Meet Quinn and artists who have depicted her image: Carlos Betancourt, Mike Chearney, and Chris Hartunian. Joan will lead a short walk-through of the exhibition, and tell stories from her days of working under Andy Warhol at Interview Magazine, her travels with Jean-Michel Basquiat, and how her adventures in the art world have continued through her life.

    About Joan Agajanian Quinn

Joan Agajanian Quinn is probably the most photographed, painted and sculpted persona in the history of contemporary art.  Approximately 300 portraits in every conceivable media created over the course of five decades have sought to capture the indomitable spirit that is Joan Quinn.  She is known for her years of art and fashion journalism, show-curating for magazines and galleries around the world, and for her long-running television show The Joan Quinn Profiles. She became a household name in the art world through her position as West Coast correspondent for Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine during the 1980’s.  In an interview with Studio of Style Quinn explained, “Though I’ve played the role of a temporary muse, I consider myself as merely the subject matter, and I’ve always been fascinated to see how these incredible artists interpret what they see in me… and it’s not an ego-driven fascination.  In fact, I want to see the hand of the artist in their pieces — not my own visage.  Therein lies the difference.”
