Earth Tones | Masterworks Series

Thursday, March 19, 2020 @ 7:30pm
Rosarian Academy
Presented by Palm Beach Symphony

The Mendelssohn work in this program is known as “Italian” because it takes its inspiration from the scenic terrain of Italy, evoking what the composer perceived as some of the most beautiful landscapes on Earth. Schwarz first heard Hanzhi Wang when she won the Young Concert Artists competition last year. He said “I had never heard such a great musician playing the accordion.” His thought was to bring to Palm Beach the most important concerto for that instrument by his composition teacher, Paul Creston. David Diamond, like Creston, is one of the giants of 20th century American music and is represented by his most popular work “Rounds for String Orchestra."
