Through Our Eyes Speaker Series: Genius Loci: Preserved Artists’ Homes and Studios as Models of Creative Placemaking
Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens
The Historic Artists’ Homes and Studios program (HAHS) is a coalition of more than 30 museums that were the homes and working studios of American artists. Special guest Valerie Balint joins us for Genius Loci: Preserved Artists’ Homes and Studios as Models of Creative Placemaking, a talk that explores this question and highlights the vitality of these places not only as beautiful and inspiring locales but also fascinating glimpses into the personal histories of the people who lived and worked in them.
Balint is the Program Manager at the Historic Artists’ Homes and Studios Program—which includes the Winslow Homer Studio—for the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Her talk delves into how artists chose these places, and provides understanding into fundamental artistic impulses, personal narratives, and individual requirements for fostering creative inspiration and production. Learn about the missions and stories of the artists through a photographic lecture.
