Serenity in the City: Well Being Comes Naturally

Saturday, February 29 through Saturday, March 28
Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens

The Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens offers a calming, inspiring and healing environment for all who experience it. A sanctuary from the stresses of everyday life, the Gardens’ therapeutic effects are felt immediately. That plants have a role in improving our mental health and well-being has been firmly established, with many studies showing that interacting with trees and plants increases feelings of calm and relaxation. While you are immersed in the Gardens’ curative greenery and beauty, Well being Comes Naturally combines diverse elements such as global wishing tree traditions, the Japanese practice of forest bathing and kinetic art to help you cultivate personal and environmental balance.

Through song, meandering the Garden, mindfulness and making a “manifestation mobile” with locally collected natural materials, you will set intentions to preserve and plant native trees to improve your well being and to help reduce climate change. By experiencing the synergistic relationship between art, nature and wellbeing, participants will fulfill Ann Weaver Norton’s intention and “hope that visitors here will find this sculpture-nature garden a deep refreshing”.

Elayna Toby Singer creates interactive programs, sculptures and art installations which connect us with ourselves, our surroundings and each other. Creating within a context of reimagined everyday objects and places, Singer’s socially engaged work inspires diverse audiences to cultivate personal and environmental balance, and shared stories. In collaboration with community partners, Singer works with the wind, trees, plants, found objects, architecture, beads and breath to encourage global stewardship of artistic, cultural and environmental resources.

Nature can live without us, we can not live without nature.
