Viewing Culture: Exploring Social and Cultural Issues through World Films

In this four-week course examine a selection of four feature films from different countries that highlight interesting social issues of our times, including gender roles, refugee life, political change, and more. Each week participants will be asked to view a different film before joining the group meeting, and provided with a list of thought-provoking questions for their viewings. Film selections for Spring 2021 include: "Where Do We Go Now", by Nadine Labaki (2011, Lebanon); "Phorpa (The Cup)", by Khyentse Norbu (1999, India/Tibet); "The Hundred Foot Journey" by Lasse Hallström (2014, USA/France); and "Offside" by Jafar Panahi (2006, Iran).

All films can be found on Amazon Prime. You will need to watch the movies prior to class. Please let us know if you have issues accessing the films.
