“Threaded / El Hilo Conductor” is an art exhibition that presents six stories intertwined through the fiber; six narratives that are connected through color and texture. This show features works by Latin American textile artists living in Miami: Mónica Avayou, Sharon Berebichez, Aurora Molina, Evelyn Politzer, Yolanda Sánchez and Laura Villarreal.

Each artist with her own style uses embroidery, weaving, sewing and natural dyes to elevate the grain of craftsmanship to fine arts. The thread is the means they use to build their own identity and reevaluate the role of women in contemporary society.

The installation and performance by Danié Gomez-Ortigoza complements the exhibition “Threaded / El Hilo Conductor”.

Danié is a Mexican-American poet and multimedia artist who believes in the power of intentionally braiding and tracing the invisible thread that unites us.

The “EL Hilo Conductor ” exhibition is an exchange exhibited between Cultural Institute of Mexico, under the direction of Adriana Torres and curator Rina Gitlin.

Rina Gitlin is an independent curator, art historian, and cultural event planner. She holds a Master of Liberal Arts in Museum Studies from Harvard Extension School.
